James Albert Johnson, age 84 of Buchanan, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2020. He was born on October 6, 1935 in Polk County, GA to the late Manco Johnson and the late Daisy Bell Astin Johnson. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by one sister, Eva Virginia Johnson Smith and two brothers, Robert Terry Johnson and Ralph Daniel Johnson.
James attended Antioch school in Cedartown right before entering into the Air Force. He loved the American flag and was proud to serve his country in the Air Force from October of 1955 until November of 1961. James served his church, Mt. Zion East Baptist Church, as a deacon.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Julia Ann McClung Johnson of Buchanan; two daughters and son-in-law, Joyce Anita Johnson of Temple and Janice Annette and Lee Dobson of Buchanan; one brother and sister-in-law, Phillip and Sandra Johnson of Douglasville; grandchildren, Charity Prater, Autumn Schlosser, Lee Dobson, Jr. Chase Johnson, Serena Johnson and Lindsey Johnson; great grandchildren, Evan Prater, Haley, Ty and Ethan Dobson, Tay Irving, Harper Joy Johnson and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 from Mt. Zion East Baptist Church Cemetery at 12:00 PM with Reverend Kenny Teal and Reverend Charlie Timms officiating. Music will be rendered by Jean McConnell. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Bill McConnell, Terry Heuer, Christopher Brannon, Chris Bacon, Dave Demers and Scott Ray.
The family will receive friends at the cemetery from 11:30 until the service hour.
