Obituary

James David "Butch" Mooney, Sr., age 77 of Carrollton, passed away peacefully Monday, May 26, 2025.  Born the tenth child in a family of twelve children, he was the son of the late Claude Marion Mooney, Sr. and the late Lois Gardner Wright Mooney. in addition to his parents, Butch is preceded in death by eight of his siblings.

Always a hard worker, Butch began at a young age working as a caddie at the Bobby Jones Golf Course in Atlanta, where he taught himself how to play golf.  Later he began working in the printing industry.  He founded his own printing company, ACG, and was a long time member of the the Printing & Imaging Association of Georgia.  Butch was the proud recipient of the Ben Franklin Award, PIAG's highest honor presented in Georgia's printing industry. This award honors an individual for being a long-term major contributor to the graphic arts industry in Georgia. In his retirement, Butch enjoyed golfing and working in his yard.  He was a devoted family man and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Dondra Mooney of Carrollton; his children, Terina & Bryan Sorrell of Jefferson, James David & Joy Mooney of Buchanan, Tyler Mooney of Buchanan, and Leslie & Justin Cowart of Carrollton; his thirteen grandchildren: Joshua, Taylor, Madison, Jake, Ashley, Karah, Courtney, Jamie, Layne, Declan, Tristan, Avery, and Aiden; and his thirteen great-grandchildren: Ava, Alexander, Addison, Emma, Elijah, Ben, Gabe, Lilah, Heidi, Blake, Parker, Ollie, and Minnie.  Also surviving are his sister, Faye Cochran of Decatur; his brothers, Robert & Sandra Mooney of Dawsonville, and Jerry & Julia Mooney of Temple; as well as many extended family members and friends.

The Celebration of Life for Butch Mooney will be conducted Sunday, June 1, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Midway Church in Villa Rica, with Reverend Kevin Rivers officiating.

The family will receive friends on Sunday at Midway Church from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM

Interment will follow the service at the Tallapoosa East Baptist Church Cemetery in Buchanan.

In keeping with his wishes, Butch will be cremated.
