Mrs. Irene Shaw Abernathy, age 80, of 6 Laminack Lane, Tallapoosa passed away Thursday, March 27, 2008. Mrs. Abernathy was born in Alamance County, North Carolina on August 9, 1927. She was the daughter of the late Lacey Lee Shaw and the late Sarah Elizabeth Aldridge Shaw. Mrs. Abernathy was a retired seamstress with Arrow Shirt Company. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roscoe Murdock Abernathy and one son, Roscoe Murdock Abernathy, Jr. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Amy and Andy Kelly of Orlando, Florida and Laura and Richard Davis of Tallapoosa; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Elizabeth and Bill Apple of Burlington, North Carolina, Sue and John Huddleston of Clinton, North Carolina and Alice Overman of Ashboro, North Carolina; one brother and sister-in-law, Elbert and Ettalene Shaw of Burlington, NC; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; and a number of other relatives. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, March 30, 2008 at 3:00 P.M. from Hutcheson''s Memorial Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Kulp and Rev. John Giglio and Major Andrew Kelly officiating. Music will be rendered by Carol Brown. Interment will follow in the Buchanan City Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Clay Payton, Stefan Boutchyard, Matt Davis, Andy Davis, Austin Davis and Spc. A.J. Kelly. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be her special friends from Kresge Memorial United Methodist Church. Hutcheson''s Memorial Chapel of Buchanan is in charge of the arrangements.
