Ms. Joan Smith Miller, age 72 of Buchanan, passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Mamie Finley Smith, Luther Smith and Albert Smith .  Joan worked for many years as a seamstress at Arrow Shirt Company and found her love for sewing.  Being a crafter, she enjoyed quilting and sewing.  Joan was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ, Latter Day Saints in Buchanan.

She is survived by daughters, Brenda Miller of Buchanan; Sandra (Patrick) Southern of Buchanan; and Misty (Larry) Vanvorhis of OH; sons, Steve Miller of Tallapoosa; Dewayne Miller of Rome; and Jamie (Kristie) Miller of Tallapoosa; a sister, Joyce Thompson of Tallapoosa; and brothers Herbert (Donna) Smith of Washington; and Roger (Elaine) Smith of Tallapoosa..  Also surviving are her grandchildren: Amanda (Josh), Savannha, Christopher, Darion (Cody), Brandon (Natshumi), Josh, Ashlan (A.J.), Joseph, Brandin, Jamie (Taylor), and Kyle; great-grandchildren: Evelyn, Tinslee, Theodore, Iveedrew, Cyrus, and two on the way, Gwendolyn and Richard.  Joan is also survived by her friend, Steve Pritchett and the father of her children, Horace Miller.

Memorial services for Joan Miller will be conducted Saturday, July 3, 2021, at 4:00 PM from Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel with Elder Kim Hardin, Elder Steve Kimball, and Elder Max Kimball officiating with prayers being offered by A.J. Skidmore.  Music will be provided by her grandchildren Ashlan and A.J. Skidmore.  The family will receive friends on Friday, July 2nd, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.  According to her wishes, she will be cremated following the visitation.
