George Reid Verner, 84, of Kennesaw, died May 28, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 31, at Maple Avenue United Methodist Church, Marietta, with Rev. Randy Rooks officiating. Interment will follow at Edwards Cemetery, Buchanan.

Mr. Verner was a graduate of Buchanan High School and served as a U.S. Marine in World War II. He played textile league baseball. Mr. Verner worked in the printing business for many years and also served as mayor of Buchanan. He was an avid gardener and especially loved his rose bushes. Mr. Verner was a member of Maple Avenue Methodist for 36 years and a member of the Leadership Sunday School Class there.

Mr. Verner is survived by a daughter, Lyn Bennett & husband, Horace, Kennesaw; three sons, Tom Verner & wife, Sherry, Pensacola, FL, Timothy Verner & wife, Jackie, Mableton, and Steve Verner, Dallas; one sister, Sandra Holcomb, McDonough; and a sister inlaw, Bonnie Verner, Buchanan; nine grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 29 years, Sara Verner.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mr. Verner may be made to the Leadership Sunday School Class, Maple Avenue Methodist Church, 63 Maple Ave, Marietta, GA 30064.
