Obituary

George W. Armstrong of Conyers, was born February 22, 1939 in Haralson County, Georgia and died on April 9, 2014 from an accident suffered at his home.  He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Freida, daughter, Kimberly Connell of Cumming; son, Christopher George Armstrong of Flowery Branch; and five grandchildren, Drew Connell, Daniel Connell, Zach Connell, Lilia Armstrong and Lennox Armstrong.  In addition he leaves behind a brother, Beryl Armstrong; a sister, Mary Armstrong Cunningham; and numerous loving nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

George proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1962 through 1964 in the 1st Battalion, 69th Armory, with decorated medals as a marksmen and sharp shooter.  He returned home to marry his beautiful bride Frieda and a baby girl soon followed in 1965.  Then at the age of 41, when most people were winding down, they welcomed a son.  If raising a whole new generation in your forties were not enough, he returned to school at the age of 47 to receive his degree in horticulture and worked tirelessly for Green Bros. Nursery and later for the City of Atlanta where he was proud to display his work at Piedmont Park during the 1996 Olympic Games.  Since his retirement, he had become a vagabond and enjoyed running from Felton, to the mountains of North Carolina, to the shores of Myrtle Beach.  He always tried to leave a smile on the faces of all those he encountered.  George never met a stranger, had a caring heart, and a wonderful sense of humor.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. from Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel with Rev. Phil Connell and Rev. Tom Barfield officiating.  The eulogy will be by Kimberly Connell.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M.
