IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Garvis Lamar
Harper
August 23, 1946 – September 11, 2025
Garvis Lamar Harper, age 79 of Buchanan, passed away Thursday, September 11, 2025, at his residence. Born in Carroll County on August 23, 1946, he was the son of the late John Harper and Ovie Stone. Garvis was preceded in death by his grandmother, Bessie Mae Harper, his sister, Nell Summerville, and his brothers Casey Harper and Mack Stone.
Garvis was a proud United States Army veteran having served from 1966 until being honorably discharged in 1968. He served as a motor transport specialist and completed a tour in Germany. A hard working man, Garvis worked for many years as a lineman with Carroll EMC. After retiring, he began driving a truck for Gas Incorporated and was also a self-employed long haul truck driver. In his leisure time, Garvis enjoyed fishing and listening to music with country and gospel being his genres of choice. Like many young men growing up in the 50's and 60's, Garvis was a fan of fast cars. He loved his family and will be missed by all who knew him.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Jennell Harper of Buchanan; his son, Kevin Harper and his wife Marie-Claire Laberge of Concord; and his grandchildren: Kaley Annie Eickelman-Harper and Dylan Thomas Harper. Also surviving are his siblings, Joyce Langley, Tony Stone and Victor Stone, all of Carrollton.
In keeping with his wishes, Garvis was cremated. A private service will be planned and he will be laid to rest at Concord United Methodist Church in the Hickory Level Community.
Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel & Crematory of Buchanan is honored to serve the Harper family.
