Mrs. Garetha Demaris Thomas Ray, age 74, 0f 45 Red Oak Rd., Carrollton passed away Thursday, July 29, 2010. Mrs. Ray was born in Rock Hill, South Carolina on November 25, 1935. She was the daughter of the late Morris Davis Thomas and the late Winnie Stamey Thomas. Mrs. Ray was a former college basketball coach at Demorest College and was a retired phone company manager. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herschel Billy Ray. Survivors include two daughters, Katrina Rylee of Snellville and Brenda Ray of Carrollton; two sons, Matthew Bryan Ray of Carrollton and Dwayne Ray of Villa Rica; two sisters, Barbara Joyce Reynolds of Morrow and Geneva Shirley of Lavonia; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a number of other relatives. Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. from Hutcheson''s Memorial Chapel with Rev. Freddie Young officiating. The body will be cremated. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. Hutcheson''s Memorial Chapel & Crematory of Buchanan is in charge of the arrangements.
