IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Fred Louis
Hood, Iii
December 22, 1948 – December 13, 2025
Fred Louis Hood III, age 76, passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday, December 13, in Tallapoosa, Georgia, surrounded by care and comfort.
Fred was born on December 22, 1948, in Memphis, Tennessee. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, an experience that shaped his strong sense of duty, independence, and perseverance. Following his military service, Fred built a long career with AT&T, where he was known for his work ethic and technical skill. After retiring, he continued to serve the public through government work, surveying land and property. This role reflected his appreciation for precision, structure, and the tangible results of hard work. Fred was a man of firm convictions and quiet strength, with a dry sense of humor and a lifelong habit of questioning rules that didn't make sense to him. He spoke his mind and lived life on his own terms. Those who knew him best understood his stubborn streak as a form of determination and his reserve as a different language for care.
He is survived by his wife, Caroll Lynn Hood (née Bishop); his brother, Paul Hood; his children, Justin Robin Hood of Bremen, Jennifer Lynn Hood, and Kelley Michelle Hood of Millington, Tennessee; and his grandchildren, Tori Daniels, Jaxon Asher Hood, and Sadie Olive Hood. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sheila Mae Hood (née Williams),and his parents, Fred L. Hood Jr. and Rachel Maureen Hood (née Tucker).
In accordance with Fred's wishes, he was cremated, and his ashes will be returned to the earth in the planting of a tree. A celebration of life will be held in the new year. The family extends sincere gratitude to the hospice team, who provided compassionate care and dignity in Fred's final days.
Fred's life was marked by service, resilience, and an unwavering sense of self. He will be remembered and missed by those who knew and loved him.
Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel & Crematory of Buchanan is honored to serve the cremation needs of the Hood family.
