Eugene Walden Smith, Jr. age 60, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. He was born on August 1, 1964, in Atlanta to the late Eugene Walden Smith, Sr. and the late Patricia Orr Smith. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Tammy Weaver Smith, his sister, Barbara McElhannon and his brother, Barry Smith.

A devoted family man, Eugene loved taking care of his family.  He was retired from MARTA where he worked as a bus service mechanic.  Using his mechanical skills, he spent time with his daughter working and teaching her how to service a car. An avid baseball fan, and no other sport, Eugene at one time coached a baseball team.  Collecting coins was another one of his favorite pastimes.  He loved taking care of his dog Coco who was his constant companion.

Survivors  include his daughter and son-in-law, Jessica and Adam Carey of Lake City, FL;  his son, Eugene Walden Smith, III of Tallapoosa; his sisters and brother-in-law, Annette and Jim Jenkins of Douglasville and Teresa Gallimore of Douglasville; and several other relatives and friends.

In keeping with Eugene's wishes he will be cremated.

A memorial service will be conducted on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at 12:00 Noon from Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel with brother Bobby Simmons officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until the service hour.
