IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elizabeth Ann
(Abington) Smith
January 2, 1929 – April 23, 2025
Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Abington Smith, age 96 of Villa Rica, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 23, 2025. Born in Bastrop Louisiana, on January 2, 1929, she was the only daughter of the late Ray and Etma Abington. In addition to her parents, Elizabeth is preceded in death by her brother, William Abington.
Elizabeth, reared in Arkansas, moved to Syracuse, New York, during World War II. She worked in a United States ammunitions factory making hand grenades before marrying and moving to Texas. From Texas, her family lived in Florida where she took care of the home and raised her children to love the Lord and serve others. With her gift of hospitality, Elizabeth served as a church hostess at First Baptist Church, Delray Beach, Florida, and First Baptist Church, Russellville, Arkansas. In her later years she moved to Georgia to be with family and enjoyed working in the garden growing delicious vegetables. Tending to her beautiful flowers was also one of Elizabeth's favorite hobbies. With her keen interest in politics, she served as a poll worker for many years. As a lifelong Southern Baptist, Elizabeth was a devoted Christian woman who read her Bible daily and had a fervor for sharing the Gospel with others. She also participated in many foreign mission trips spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ around the world. Now resting in the arms of Jesus, she will be dearly missed by her family.
Left to cherish her memories are her children and their spouses, Leslie & Mike McPherson of Villa Rica, Leigh Anne & Tom Hagan of Hogansville, Lyndon & Renee` Smith of Temple, and Gregory Smith of Boynton Beach, Florida, and a sister-in-law, Diane Abington of Russellville, Arkansas. Also surviving are her precious grandchildren: Shelby Ford, Ashley Mestre, Brandi Torres, Kelsey Trump, Michael McPherson, Elizabeth Rahn, Melissa McPherson, Josh Smith, Amanda Cook and Victoria Betts; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandson on the way; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and friends.
