Mr. Edgar Leonard Worthy, age 79, of Tallapoosa passed away Friday, July 29, 2016.  Mr. Worthy was born in Tallapoosa, Georgia on June 16, 1937.  He was the son of the late Nealey Worthy and the late Clara Odom Worthy.  Mr. Worthy was retired from Stoffel Seals in Tallapoosa.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Joel David Worthy.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Hicks Worthy of Tallapoosa; three sons, Steve and his wife Cindy Worthy of Buchanan, Phillip Worthy of Bremen and Jonathan and his wife Wendy Worthy of Buchanan; two sisters, Jewel Palmer of Tallapoosa and Edna and her husband Webster Hand of Woodville, FL; one brother, Doyce and his wife Mary Ellen Worthy of Ooltewah, TN; five grandchildren, Jessica and her husband Jared Pervis, Amy Worthy, Ben Worthy, Hannah Worthy and Cameron Worthy; and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, August 1, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. from Buchanan First Baptist Church with Dr. Allen Wilburn and Rev. Bill Brown officiating.  Music will be provided by Rev. Buddy Gentry and Martha Harden.  Interment will follow in the Baptist Tabernacle Church Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Melvin Reeves, Clarence Newborn, Randy Barkwell, David Hicks, Hugh Harden and Thomas Bishop.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
