Dwight Douglas Smith, age 79, transitioned from this life into eternal life on Monday, May 27, 2024, after a brief illness with lung cancer. Born in Cleburne County, Alabama, Dwight spent his later years in Georgia. By trade he was a body man and worked at C&H Body Shop for many years where he became known and sought after for his expertise as well as later having his own business including freelancing in body repair for insurance companies. At one point he also managed at least three restaurants at various times where he had repeat customers who came for the warmth of Dwight's charismatic personality as well as their love for his natural ability as a chef. He had a great love for horse back riding from childhood, motorcycles, Broncos, old trucks. He had a passionate love for nature and could be found spending countless hours in his vegetable and flower gardens. He had the innate ability to transfer any space into a colorful work of living art. A devoted Christian and family man, he loved his family dearly and will be missed.
Left to cherish his memories are his children, Douglas Edward Smith; Roy Daine Smith; Holly Elizabeth Smith; sisters, Patricia Smith McLeroy; Sara Smith Popphan; brother, Henry Robert Smith; four grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, Jeannie Kemp and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests that you donate in his name to a charity of your choice.
The family also would like to give a special appreciation to Tanner Hospice nurses and staff for their gentle and loving care of Dwight and the entire family.
In keeping with Dwight's wishes he will be cremated. The family will host a private service at a later date.
Cremation services are entrusted to Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel & Crematory of Buchanan.
