Obituary

Mr. Douglas Melvin Vines, 68, of Villa Rica passed away on September 15, 2010 at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton. Mr. Vines was born on May 4, 1942 in Cedartown, Georgia to the late Troy and Cindy Vines. Mr. Vines was a truck driver and a mechanic, but always put his family first. He loved playing with his grandchildren and had a big hand in raising each of them. He loved watching the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves play and watching Nascar races with his family. Mr. Vines is also responsible for the Christmas lights displayed at his home on North Van Wert Road in Villa Rica every winter for the past twenty-two years. This along with his bright demeanor led many children to suspect that he was Santa Claus. He will be dearly missed by not just family and friends, but the entire community. Mr. Vines was preceded in death by his brother, Franklin Vines, and his two sisters, Ann Harrell and Carol Jean Travis. Survivors include Georgia Vines, his wife of 45 years, his children, Richard and Mary Vines of Villa Rica, Becky Vines of Villa Rica, Linda and Dwayne Madden of Bremen, Tonya and Tracy George of Carrollton and Melissa Vines of Temple; his eleven grandchildren, Kelly and Erik Peterson of Stone Mountain, Bradley Vines of Temple, Casey Vines of Villa Rica, Bruce Vines of Villa Rica, Douglas and Justin Madden of Bremen, Toby and Owen George of Carrollton, and Kayla and Brittney Rutledge of Temple, and one great-grandchild, Mason Rutledge of Temple and another great-grandchild on the way. He is also survived by his siblings, Dinky and Nori Vines of Buchannan, Darrell and Rachel Vines of Temple, Troy Vines of Bremen, Randall and Helen Cochran of Resaca, Wayne and Ann Vines of Cedartown, Scotty and Brenda Vines of Bremen, and Theresa Vines of Tallapoosa. Funeral services honoring Mr. Vines will be held at Fullerville Baptist Church on Monday, September 20, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Meadowbrook Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends all day Saturday and Sunday at their home, 1540 North Van Wert Road in Villa Rica. Hutcheson''s Memorial Chapel & Crematory of Buchanan is in charge of the arrangements.
