Doris Kiser Long
No truer soul of kindness has bestowed the world with such selflessness as Doris Kiser Long. We affectionately refer to her as Granny Long, as did the multitudes of which were fortunate enough to encounter her generosities. Born in 1928 to Marian Bartlett and Mary Irene Cook Kiser of rural Haralson County near Buchanan she was preceded in death by her younger brother, Master Manuel Kiser, as well as her beloved father, mother, and husband.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Donnie Ballew; and loving son, Tracy; grandchildren, Gary and Christina Ballew, Bryan and Melissa Ballew, and Shayna and Ken Moses; great-grandchildren, Brittany, Ashley, BreAnna, Kendra, Dylan, Luke, Rachel and Rebecca; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The help mate of her lifelong love, spouse, and confidant, the late Ronald Lester Long, known to all as Pappy Long, Granny Long was steadfastly at the helm of her domain of noble giving. Although no medals, plaques of servitude, nor monuments hang or stand in her name, Granny Long undeniably impressed the souls of anyone whom she came into contact with. Invariable love emanated from her magnanimous spirit every second of every day of her life through her works and daily acts. Uncommon benevolence was simply a hallmark of Granny Long's existence not a mere passive action. With such love, she nursed the aches and ailments of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren while simultaneously bequeathing them with the tenants of a righteously lived life up until her waning days.
A member of the greatest generation, Granny Long vividly bore witness to and lived through the Great Depression and World War II, as well as countless social, political, and economical transformations that emerged during the 1900's and early 2000's. Unshakably, however, was her steadfast devotion to family, friends, neighbors, and faith. Regardless of variations of the generations, Granny Long never wavered from the engrained traits that made her who she truthfully was; a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, an adoring grandmother, and a tender loving great-grandmother. That she will be dearly missed is clearly understood without a spoken word for her memory will carry on within the hearts, minds, and souls of all whom had the unmistakable privilege of knowing this beautiful woman. We will endlessly miss you, your character, and your essence Granny Long. We love you enduringly.
