Mr. Donald James Sumlar, age 77, of Buchanan passed away Saturday, November 3, 2012. Mr. Sumlar was born in Polk County on July 7, 1935. He was the son of the late Jude Sumlar and the late Edna Evett Sumlar. Mr. Sumlar retired as a supervisor with Goodyear in Rockmart. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Geneva; one sister, Nora Lee Pugh; and one great grandchild, Jacob Rice.
Survivors include his wife, Ruthie Ellen Harrison Sumlar of Buchanan; one son, Michael Sumlar of Buchanan; two step-daughters and one step-son-in-law, Joy Lee and Joe Brown of Silver Creek and Julie Lee Beck of Cedartown; one step-son and step-daughter-in-law, Warren and Ellen Lee of Cedartown; one sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Harvey Smith of Taylorsville; six grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. from Hutcheson''s Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ralph Ploof, Rev. Howard Locklear and Rev. Charles Sutton officiating. Music will be rendered by Irma and David Chafin and Kathy Akers. Interment will follow in Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Kenneth Smith, Scottie Smith, C.W. Ploof, Tony Norris, Joe Brown and Warren Lee. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be: Roy Worthy, Bobby Clark, Tim Deems and Dean Akers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 7:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M.
Hutcheson''s Memorial Chapel & Crematory of Buchanan is in charge of the arrangements.
