Diwanda Elaine Hobbs Brown, age 72 of Waco, passed away peacefully at her residence on Friday, October 16, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. Born in Tallapoosa, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Louise Payton Davis and the late Henry Hobbs. In addition to her parents, Diwanda is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Wayne Brown, who passed away April 7, 2026, and her brother, Keith Hobbs.
A 1972 Haralson County High School graduate, Diwanda worked for many years with the Carroll County School Systems as a paraprofessional, with her most recent work being with the teachers at Sharp's Creek. Her love for children and her co-workers shone through in all her endeavors at the school. Diwanda spent many hours talking to friends and family on the phone and working on her computer. She enjoyed grocery shopping, making sure that she got the best deal even if she had to drive 25 miles for it. Diwanda was an excellent cook and a skilled flower gardener. Most of all, Diwanda adored her family and treasured her son, Jarrod. Her loving spirit and care taking skills will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Left to cherish her memories are her son, Jarrod Wayne Brown; her sister-in-law, Pat Wright; and her brother-in-law and wife, Michael & Dawn Brown all of Waco; and her special cousin, Renee McAdams of Tallapoosa. Also surviving are her nephews, Matthew (Crystal) Hobbs and Darrell Wright; her niece, Vonda Fennell; and her special care givers, Diane Haverty and Toni Junior.
Funeral services for Diwanda Brown will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 18, 2026, from Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel with Reverend Richard Brannon officiating. She will be laid to rest at Waco Baptist Church Cemetery.
Her family will receive friends on Sunday at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour.
