Mr. David Gene Ploof, age 81, of Buchanan passed away Friday, June 23, 2017 at his residence. Mr. Ploof was born in Haralson County, Georgia, on June 7, 1936. He was the son of the late Reford Ploof and the late Mary Ethel McDowell Ploof. Mr. Ploof was retired from U.S. Can Company.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Anasteen Sumerville, Estelle Swann, Barbara Ann Lankford and Cleo Blair; four brothers, Harold Ploof, Dennis Ploof, Raymond Ploof and Duck Ploof.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Forsyth Ploof of Buchanan; two daughters and sons-in-law, Hope and Steve Wrigley of Bremen, and Sheree and Chuck Smith of Tallapoosa; four grandchildren, Matt and his wife Meagan Wrigley, Katie and her husband Cody Hicks, Hali and her husband Matt Holcombe, and Savana "Boo" Smith; four great grandchildren, Paizely Faith Hicks, Kaleb Holcombe, Kaden Holcombe and Olivia West; and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, June 26, 2017 at 4:00 P.M. from Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ralph Ploof and Rev. Jon Smith officiating.  Interment will follow in Union Grove Baptist Church with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Chuck Smith, Steve Wrigley, Matt Wrigley, Cody Hicks, Matt Holcombe and Timothy Vaughn.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M.
