Mr. Commodore "C.J" J. Philpot, age 78, of Buchanan passed away Friday, January 29, 2016.  Mr. Philpot was born in Buchanan, Georgia on August 5, 1937.  He was the son of the late Joseph Virgil Philpot and the late Elsie Grant Philpot.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Artemus Philpot and Emory Philpot.

Survivors include his wife, Nan Richie Philpot of Buchanan; one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Dan Ives of Buchanan; one son, Joey Philpot of Buchanan; one step-son and daughter-in-law, Andy and Donna Richie of Carrollton; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Janice and Jim Bowman of Lithia Springs and Mattie Jane and Ronnie Martin of Griffin; one brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Velda Philpot of Buchanan; seven grandchildren, Collin Philpot, Grant Philpot, Tucker Philpot, Faith Ives, Ryan Ives and Mason Richie; and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, February 1, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. from Tallapoosa East Baptist Church with Dr. Mason Bush and Rev. Richard Brannon officiating.  Music will be rendered by Kersha Cartwright and Kiley Thompson accompanied by Beleta Anderson.  Interment will follow in Tallapoosa East Baptist Church Cemetery with Joey Philpot, Dan Ives, Andy Richie, Collin Philpot, Grant Philpot and Calvin Philpot serving as pallbearers.  Serving as honorary pallbearers will be: Tucker Philpot, Ryan Ives, Mason Richie, Logan Reeves and Ryan Reeves.

Mr. Philpot's remains will lie in state at the Church Monday morning from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M.

The family will receive friends at Tallapoosa East Baptist Church Sunday evening from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
