Colbert Smith, Jr. age 67 of Buchanan, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2022, after a brief illness.  He was born in Buchanan, GA, on December 1, 1954, to the late Colbert Smith, Sr, and the late Eva Mae Poole Smith.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four sisters: Hazel Smith, Grace Longino, Emma Harris, and Delphine Smith.

After graduating Haralson County High School with the class of 1972, Colbert attended Floyd Junior College and later transferred to West Georgia College.  He had several different careers in his lifetime, but his favorite job was these last several years working as a Para-Professional in the Haralson County School System assisting with special needs children.  Colbert loved children. He also enjoyed collecting watches and watching movies and television shows.  The Color Purple was his favorite movie and watching reruns of The Golden Girls was his favorite pastime. Colbert was a member of Jackson Chapel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

Left to cherish his memories are his sisters, Minnie Dunson of Dayton, OH, Ruby Mitchell of Buchanan, Annette Boykin of Buchanan, and Djuana (Stanley) Freeland of Buchanan; his brothers, Charles (Gail) Smith of Dayton, OH, Henry (Hazel) Smith of Carrollton, and Richard (Debbie) Smith of Buchanan; a brother-in-law, William Harris of Buchanan; as well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services for Colbert Smith, Jr. will be conducted Monday, November 28, 2022, at 2:00 PM from Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel with Rev. Stanley Freeland officiating and remarks by family and friends. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening at the chapel from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and on Monday from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour.
