Obituary

Clyde Deariso Fowler died suddenly on October 13, 2013, in Atlanta, Georgia.  He was born on February 5, 1929, to the late Clyde Cecil Fowler and Dorothy Nell Deariso.

Clyde, a native of Atlanta, was a graduate of North Fulton High School and attended Georgia State University.  He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, in both Korea and Japan, for which he was awarded the Medal of Honor and Fidelity.   Following military service and college, he became an independent insurance agent, owning and operating Fowler Insurance Agency for more than 30 years.  He retired in 1992 to the north Georgia Mountains of Big Canoe, and eventually to a family home in Dublin, Georgia.

An avid golfer and member of Dunwoody Country Club and Big Canoe, Clyde was also an accomplished, self-taught musician.  His range of instruments included the piano, tenor and alto saxophones, clarinet, guitar, and ukulele.  He formed and led "The Notables", a 40's style big band, for most of his adult life.  Clyde was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.  He was a true Southern gentleman who will be remembered especially for his gift of music, his sense of humor, and his love of sweater vests and dessert.

He is predeceased by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 59 years, Carole Goodson Fowler.

He is survived by their three children, Catherine Fowler Dickerson (Bruce), Conyers, James Clyde Fowler (Carol), Roswell, and Diane Fowler Rodriguez (John), Jacksonville, Florida, and his sister, Dorothy Fowler Cosper, Charlotte, North Carolina.

He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Christopher and James Wojcik, Sarah, Kate and Caroline Fowler, Lucy Rodriguez, and several nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at Roswell Presbyterian Church in Roswell, Georgia.

Remembrances may be made to Halcyon Hospice Foundation, 1435 Haw Creek Circle East, Suite 402, Cumming, Georgia 30041, in honor of Clyde Deariso Fowler.

Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel & Crematory of Buchanan is in charge of the arrangements.
