Mr. Clarence Lamar Watkins, age 89, of Milledgeville formerly of Buchanan passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at the Georgia War Veterans Home. Mr. Watkins was born in Carroll County on June 6, 1919. He was the son of the late Ralph Watkins and the late Willie Mae Watkins. Mr. Watkins was a veteran of the United States Army. He served in the Infantry in World War II in the Battle at Normandy and the Battle at Rhineland and was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, the American Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with two Bronze Stars. Mr. Watkins was a retired steel worker. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by tow sisters, Helen Grandle and Barbara Jackson; and three brothers, Bill Watkins, Earnest Watkins and Jack Watkins. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Watkins of Carrollton; one son and daughter-in-law, Clinton and Barbara Watkins of Villa Rica; and a number of other relatives. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. from the Graveside at the Buchanan Cemetery with Minister Sidney White officiating. Interment will follow in the Buchanan Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Hutcheson''s Memorial Chapel & Crematory of Buchanan is in charge of the arrangements.
