Mr. Charles Eugene Worthy, age 78, of Tallapoosa passed away Friday, January 27, 2017.  Mr. Worthy was born in Buchanan, Georgia, on June 11, 1938.  He was the son of the late Newt Worthy and the late Mollie Williams Worthy.  Mr. Worthy was a veteran of the United States Army and was retired from the Ford Motor Company Assembly Plant in Atlanta.

Mr. Worthy was a member of Baptist Tabernacle Church in Tallapoosa and was a Baptist Minister.  He was very involved in politics, having served as a member of the City Council of Buchanan and then after moving to Tallapoosa served as a member of the City Council of Tallapoosa.  He was also an avid golfer.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Wilson Worthy of Tallapoosa; one daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Darren Topping of Tallapoosa; two sons, Mark and Deanne Worthy and Kevin Worthy all of Tallapoosa; one sister and brother-in-law, Hattie Belle and J.W. Brown of Buchanan; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Roy Lee Worthy of Buchanan and Johnny and Barbara Worthy of Cedartown; five grandchildren, Brad Worthy, Meghan Brock, Emily Dobbs, Savannah Worthy and Zach Nutphun; two great grandchildren, Jon Luke Dobbs and Carter Lee Brock; and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, January 29, 2017 at 3:00 P.M. from Baptist Tabernacle with Rev. Joey Meeks and Rev. Buddy Gentry officiating.  Music will be rendered by Josh Worthy and Johnny and Janice Daniel.  Interment will follow in Baptist Tabernacle Church Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Dennis Worthy, Jeff Worthy, Scott Worthy, Ryan Dobbs, Adam Brock and Brad Worthy. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be his golfing buddies.

Mr. Worthy will lie in state at the Church Sunday afternoon from 2:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M.

The family will receive friends at Baptist Tabernacle Church Saturday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M.
