Obituary


Mr. Charles Russell Carter, age 75, of 226 Carrollton St., Buchanan passed away Monday, June 15, 2009. Mr. Carter was born in Haralson County on June 30, 1933. He was the son of the late Charles Russell Carter, Sr. and the late Grace Brown Carter. Mr. Carter was a veteran of the United States Army and was retired from American Can Company. He also served for many years on the Buchanan City Council and was a Mason. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Coalson Carter; and a daughter, Sharon Jackson.


Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and John Croft of Buchanan, Linda and Les Baker of Villa Rica and Brenda and Mike Kitchen of Carrollton; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Randy and Teresa Carter of Tallapoosa and Ricky Carter of Bremen; one sister and brother-in-law, Marion and Billy Joe Ayers of Buchanan; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Diane Carter of Buchanan and Richard and Sonya Carter of Buchanan; ten grandchildren, Chase Croft, Cathy Croft, Brett House, Robyn Trantham, Jade Smith, Phillip Jackson, Timothy Jackson, Christy Carter, Caleb Carter and Brelin Carter; seven great grandchildren, Hunter Trantham, Haven Trantham, Hannah House, Mary House, Dalton Smith, Ava Smith and Landan Malone; and a number of other relatives.


Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. from Buchanan First Baptist Church with Rev. Brett House officiating. Music will be rendered by Kristi Pope accompanied by Tammy Miller. Interment will follow in the Buchanan Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Chase Croft, Brett House, Jade Smith, Timothy Jackson, Phillip Jackson and Caleb Carter. There will be Masonic graveside rites followed by military honors provided by the Haralson County Veterans Association. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. The remains will lie in state at the Church from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.
