Obituary

Charles Edwin Carnes, age 81 of Buchanan, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 14, 2025. Born in Haralson County on June 10, 1944, he was the son of the late Wilburn Carnes and the late Inez Vines Carnes. In addition to his parents, Charles is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Martha Ann Crawford Carnes, and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Carolyn Anderson and Joyce & Dorsey Hulsey.


Growing up in the country, Charles was always an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed listening to Blue Grass music.  In his early years, he enjoyed working with his father pulpwooding and collecting scrap metal.  Charles worked for many years as a truck driver and then spent 12 years working at the Haralson County Convenience Center on Bethlehem Church Road.  He enjoyed being around people and having great conversations.  However, his pride and joy was his family.  Paw dearly loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.


Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ellen and Philip Carroll of Bremen; two sons and daughter-in-law, Ben Carnes of Buchanan and Stan and Tammy Carnes of Buchanan; eight grandchildren, Tiffany Bell, Jake and Tristen Carnes, Haley and Christian Rester, Zachary Owens, Bradley Owens, Kristen Carnes, Kaylee Elliott and Kylee Elliott; and seven great-grandchildren, Raylin Ellis, Ryleigh Bell, Rynlee Bell, Kaisley Carnes, Lettie Carnes, Raylan Rester and Barrett Rester. Also surviving are one sister and brother-in-law, Lois & Raymond Burrell of Tallapoosa; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenny & Teresa Carnes of Cedartown, Harold & Donna Carnes of Buchanan, and Ray Carnes of Tallapoosa; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.


Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at 2:00 PM from Bethlehem Baptist Church with Reverend Ricky Caldwell officiating. Mr. Carnes will lie-in-state at the church from 1:00 PM until the funeral. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Stan Carnes, Ben Carnes, Philip Carroll, Jake Carnes, Zach Owens, Brad Owens and Shane Carnes and honorary pallbearers: Raylan & Barrett Rester.


The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 16th at Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
