Charles Malcolm Campbell went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 20, 2013. Charles was born in Rockmart, Georgia on September 1, 1939 the son of Thomas Malcolm Campbell and Jewel McGarity Campbell. He was the grandson of James Oscar Campbell and Lucy Ann Ogle Campbell, James Walter McGarity and Alice Caroline Register McGarity all of Paulding County, Georgia. Charles was a direct descendant of Aeneas Campbell, a founding father of Loudoun County, Virginia, and a Patriot of the American Revolution.

At the age of 10 Charles moved with his family to Carrollton, Georgia and enrolled in the Carrollton City School System. As a student at Carrollton High School, Charles was an accomplished athlete and student. He lettered in baseball, track and football as a student at Carrollton High. He was a member of the 1956 Carrollton State Championship football team, and established numerous records that stood for many years. He was also a member of the State Championship track team at Carrollton High as part of the relay team. He was always proud of the 1956 State Championship football team as they began the Trojan Tradition. He is a member of the Carrollton Trojan Hall of Fame and several years ago donated his 1956 State Championship letter jacket to the Hall of Fame. He was a 1957 graduate of Carrollton High School. He attended West Georgia College, Georgia Tech and Oglethorpe University before starting his career with Texaco as a manager in the Atlanta Division.

In June of 1961 he married Beverly Jane McCord of Atlanta, and continued to live in Atlanta until moving to New Orleans, Louisiana as he continued his career with Texaco. After retiring from Texaco, he moved to Hohenwald , Tennessee where he became the Lewis County Trustee, a position he held for 16 years. After his marriage Charles became very active in the Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon, an Elder and a number of leadership positions. He was a beloved member of the Hohenwald community and was the public address announcer for the local high school football team. After retiring as Trustee, he lived in Columbia, Tennessee and later moved to Huntsville, Alabama.

Charles Campbell is survived by Beverly Campbell, his wife of 52 years, three sons Charles (Chuck) McCord Campbell (Annie), Van Murray Campbell, and Dr. Thomas Mark Campbell (Susan). He was blessed with 11 grandchildren: Katy Campbell, Colby Campbell, Brock Campbell, Kayla Campbell, Sarah Wesleigh Campbell, Grace Campbell, Hallie Campbell, Colin Campbell, Jacob Campbell, Logan Campbell, and Clay Campbell. He is also survived by a sister Judy Campbell Story (Carl) of Huntsville, Alabama and a brother Dr. Mike Campbell (Laura) of Carrollton, Georgia. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive visitors on Thursday, January 24 at Almon Funeral Home in Carrollton, Georgia from 11:00am to 1:00pm. A graveside service will follow at Pleasant Grove Methodist Church at 2:00 pm on Coppermine Road in Temple, Georgia.

Historic Pleasant Grove Methodist Church is a special place in the McGarity and Campbell families. Seaborn Solomon McGarity, the great-great grandfather of Charles donated the land for the church and has five generations of family interred in the cemetery.
