Mr. Buell Burnell Rice, age 80, of 38 Eaves Bridge Rd., Buchanan passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2008. Mr. Rice was born in Haralson County on July 18, 1927. He was the son of the late Elijah Noah Rice and the late Levia Ann Kirk Rice. Mr. Rice was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II on the destroyer USS Henderson, was retired from Allied Chemical Company and was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by six sisters, Ruby Adams, Ruth Hulsey, Gladys Cook, Edna Bishop, Hattie Coleman and Thelma Rice. Survivors include his wife, Dora Hill Rice of Buchanan; one daughter, Martha Lang of Buchanan; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dorsey and Gail Rice of Buchanan and David and Nancy Rice of Griffin; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a number of other relatives. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 26, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. from the Mountain View Baptist Church with Rev. W.A. Ivie officiating. Music will be rendered by Rev. Buddy Gentry. Interment will follow in the Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Dorsey Rice, Jr., David Rice, Jr., Jason Rice, Jeffrey Adams, Harold Dickinson and Elijah Coleman. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. The remains will lie in state at the Church from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 P.M. Hutcheson''s Memorial Chapel of Buchanan is in charge of the arrangements.
