Billy Joe Ayers, age 85 of Buchanan, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 18, 2024. Born in Cedartown, Georgia, on November 14, 1938, he was the son of the late Lowell Iverson Ayers and the late Delcie Kelley Ayers. In addition to his parents, Billy Joe is preceded in death by his daughter, Lori Ayers, his granddaughter, Jenni Ayers, his sisters, Sarah Wood and Brenda Nappi, and his brothers, Denny Ayers and Lowell Ayers.
A 1956 graduate of Buchanan High School, Billy Joe enjoyed working and staying busy. After being employed for 33 years as a mechanic at American Can Company, he retired and continued working at home tinkering with his vintage cars and tending to his garden. One of his passions was traveling the country with his wife, Marion, in their motorhome. Billy Joe also enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family. Billy Joe was also a long time member of Buchanan First Baptist Church.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife Marion Carter Ayers; his children, Keith Ayers of Bremen, Tammy Mobley of Big Canoe, and Kevin (Carolyn) Ayers of Bremen; his precious grandchildren, Jared Ayers, Blake & Katie Mobley, Doug & Julia Ayers, Grant Mobley, Alli (Michael) Shaw, Mari Grace Ayers, and Carter Ayers; and his great-grandchildren: Jenni, Archer, Oliver, Cooper, Hazel, Graham, Avery and Andi. Also surviving are a number of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Billy Joe Ayers will be conducted on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at 3:00 P.M. from the Buchanan First Baptist Church with Rev. Kevin Ayers and Rev. Dr. Allen Wilburn officiating. Interment will follow in the Edwards Cemetery in Buchanan with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Jared Ayers, Doug Ayers, Carter Ayers, Michael Shaw, Anthony Ayers, and Mark Ayers. Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Ayers, Randy Carter, Ricky Carter, and Steve Williams.
The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM.
