Legacy of Life

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

A time to be born and a time to die;

Ecclesiastes 3:1-2

Barbara Ann Dove, affectionately known as "Nana Boo" was born in Gary, Indiana on January 9, 1948.  She graduated from Emerson High School.  Barbara met and married the late Donald Ulysses Dove Jr., together they raised six children.  She was a devoted mother and a domesticated goddess, taking delight in cleaning, cooking, sewing, and singing with her children.  She was generous, kind and compassionate.  She was equally firm, direct and sometimes abrasive. She loved her children and adored her grand and great grandchildren.

She was an outstanding member of Peace Baptist Church for over 20 years. Barbara was happiest serving others and helping where needed.  She worked as a medical billing specialist for St Mary's Hospital Northlake, Dr Dalal Office, and St. Mary's billing center of Merriville. She built lifelong friendships that she truly cherished.  Gary, Indiana was her home for over 64 years before moving to Georgia.

Barbara departed this life surrounded by love on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Higgins General Hospital in Bremen, Georgia.  She was preceded in death by her parents: Richard F. Carter and Letha Mae Carter. ex-husband Donald Ulysses Dove Jr.; sisters, Florence Lorraine Yancey; Bessie "Suga" Brown; Michele Hunt; and brother, Willie Hunt Carter.

Barbara is survived by her children: Johnetta (Theo) Crawford, Leslie (Darren) Ingram, Darda (Marlena) Dove, Donald (Tekoa)Dove, Barachel Johnson and Samuel Dove; four siblings; Leonard(Mary Ann) Carter, Tyrone (Deborah) Hunt, Sarah (Dahveed) Flournoy, and Mark Hunt; twelve grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and a host of cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.  Barbara will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
