Mrs. Mattie Belle Sanders Johnson, age 88, of Buchanan passed away on Monday, June 18, 2018. She was born in Felton, Georgia on Sunday, May 4, 1930. Mrs. Sanders was the daughter of the late Gennie Sanders and Ethel Garner Sanders. Besides her parents, Mrs. Johnson is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Johnson; one son, Rickie Johnson; one son-in-law, Richard Clarke four brothers, A.Z. Sanders, Earnest Sanders Jimmy Sanders and Madison Sanders; four sisters, Ruby Hendrix, Genieva Willis, Virginia Johnson and Orene Poteat.
Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Minnie Belle and Bill Cloud of Tallahassee, FL, Louise Brown of Cedartown, Laura Jean Stogner of Waco and Annette Clarke and Mark Pike of Buchanan; one daughter-in-law Carole Johnson of Rome; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Chad and Shannon Chambers, Robbie and Amy Cloud, David and Dawn Brown, Barbara and Robbie Pendergrass, Michelle Mullenix, Hope Spradlin, Brandon Pike and Aimee Creego; twelve great grandchildren McKenzie Nelson, Madysun Chambers, Evan Brown, Cloe Brown, Jordan Mullenix, Kayden Spradlin, Karlee Spradlin, Khloe Spradlin, Kayce Pike, Trinity and Cole Creego, Alli Cloud and Jade Cloud and a number of other relatives.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, June 22, 2018 at 2:00 PM from New Canaan Baptist Church with reverend Aaron Johnson and Reverend Lee Patrick officiating. Interment will follow in New Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Wayne Wood, Jerry Poteat, James Arp, Ray Poteat, Raymond Poteat, Bruce Poteat and Brian Walker.
Mrs. Johnson will lie in state at New Canaan Baptist Church on Friday, June 22, 2018 from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.
The family will receive friends Thursday, June 21, 2018 at the funeral home from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
