George Harold Murphy, Jr. of Carrollton, GA, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 24, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was born on January 18, 1951 in LaGrange, GA, to the late George Harold Murphy, Sr. and Betty Davidson Murphy. George was retired after serving the community in Banking for over 35 years. He grew up in LaGrange, GA where he was a faithful member of Loyd Presbyterian Church. It was at Loyd Presbyterian where George received a perfect attendance pin for 16 straight years of Sunday school attendance. Even in the 2nd grade, when he was hit by a car, his Sunday school teacher came to his house after church a few Sundays to do the lesson with him; so, he could still receive his perfect attendance award. In his younger years, George was active in Troup County 4-H. He won state competitions for chickens that he hatched, raised, then barbecued. His BBQ sauce was his signature recipe and one he made with pride! He also enjoyed camping, being outdoors, working in the garden and riding motorcycles. In his adult years, George enjoyed reading and collecting books by specific authors such as Lee Child, Robert Crais, and Michael Connelly and traveling to attend those authors’ book signings.
