Ann Christine (Swanson) Westmoreland

Mrs. Ann Christine Swanson Westmoreland, age 79, of Buchanan, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2019. She was born on June 12, 1940 to the late Floyd Arthur Swanson and the late Hazel Clara VanBibber Swanson. Besides her parents she is preceded in death by one daughter, Cheri Mixon.

She obtained her master’s from Rockford College and was an educator for over 30 years. She was a member of the Haralson-Bremen Retired Educators, Buchanan Women’s Club, Haralson County Republican Women, UMW at Buchanan United Methodist Church where she was also a member and was instrumental in starting the Buchanan Food Bank. She was an avid sponsor of the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life. She was a published author of several children’s books and also served as a Boy Scout master. She loved spending time baking and was very mischievous and fun loving.

Survivors include her husband Marvin Glynn Westmoreland; two daughters, Suzanne Mitchell of Douglasville and Lisa (Justin) Surginer of Eastman; one son, Marvin Glynn Westmoreland, Jr. of Buchanan; one sister, Mary Sue Hoffman of Love’s Park, IL; eight grandchildren, Jeremy Mitchell, Scott Mitchell, David Mixon, Jackie Mixon, Mark Mixon, Rebecca Surginer, Elizabeth Surginer and Mary Surginer; five great grandchildren and several other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 27, 2019 from Hutcheson’s Memorial Chapel at 11:00 AM. Music will be rendered by Beleta Anderson, Kersha Cartwright and Kiley Thompson. Interment will follow in Meadowbrook Memory Gardens with the following gentleman serving as pallbearers: Glynn Westmoreland, David Mixon, Mark Mixon and Justin Surginer.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
