James "Tommy" Williams Obituary

Mr. James Thomas “Tommy” Williams, devoted husband, father and grandfather, age 62, of Tallapoosa, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2020, after an extended illness. Mr. Williams was born in Flint, MI, on July 27, 1957, to the late Howard Williams and Sharon Smith Williams.  Tommy joined the Navy as a teenager, and after serving 4 years was honorably discharged.  Upon leaving the Navy, he moved to Tallapoosa, GA, where he met and married Angela Akin.

Tommy was a Post Certified Law Enforcement Officer, working for Buchanan Police Department for 2 years and the Haralson County Sheriff’s Office for 16 years.  He retired from the Sheriff’s Office due to health reasons in 2006 having served under 3 sheriffs.   Tommy enjoyed spending time with his family and being outdoors. 

Tommy leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 35 years, Angela Akin Williams of Tallapoosa; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles “Chuck” and Suki Williams of Bremerton, WA; one daughter, Hannah Williams of Buchanan, GA; and one grandchild, Wade Thomas Williams of Bremerton, WA.  He is also survived by two brothers-in-law Johnny and Cindy Akin, Buchanan, GA, and Tony Akin of Buchanan, GA; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr.  Tommy Williams will be conducted at 1:00 PM, Friday, March 13th from Baptist Tabernacle in Tallapoosa with Rev. Joey Meeks officiating.  Music will be furnished by Josh Worthy and Soul Star.  Interment with military honors will be conducted in the church cemetery.  The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Johnny Akin, Justin Akin, Bobby Smith, Chris Thompson, Seth Thompson, and Brian Williams.  His family will receive friends on Thursday, March 12th at the funeral home from 5 until 8 PM.  Mr. Williams will also lie-in-state on Friday at the church from Noon until the funeral hour.
