Lowell Ayers Obituary

Lowell Edward Ayers, Sr. age 87 of Buchanan, passed away peacefully Friday, March 22, 2024, in a local hospital.  Born in Polk County, Georgia, on  April 29, 1936, he was the son of the late Lowell I. Ayers and the late Delcie Kelley Ayers. A mere three weeks since his beloved wife, Shirley, passed, Lowell has now joined her, his soulmate and true love of 67 years in a beautiful reunion in heaven. He is also preceded in death by his sisters, Sarah Wood and Brenda Nappi, and brother Denny Ayers.

A loving, kind and generous family man, Lowell worked hard to take care of his family.  After high school, he spent 38 years working as a mechanic at American Can Co. where he retired. Granddaddy  loved spending time with his family, especially his grands and great-grands. He enjoyed his leisure time playing golf, traveling to the Grands’ sporting events and going to Panama City Beach with the family.  Many weekends he could be found in the stands or at home in front of the TV watching Alabama football.  Supporting his community, Lowell spent many years on the Buchanan Housing Authority Board, and he was a member of the Buchanan First Baptist Church for more than 60 years.

Left to cherish his memories are his daughter and son-in-law, Faith and Randy Pullen; his sons and daughters-in-law, Eddie and Lisa Ayers, Mark Ayers, and Anthony and Lisa Ayers, all of Buchanan; and his grandchildren, Todd Ayers, Trent and Anna Ayers, Abigail Ayers and Carl Gable, Allen and Heather Pullen, Adam and Margaret Pullen, Taylor and Kannon Madden, and Haley Ayers and Tyler Motes; his precious great-grandchildren: Calyn, Caven, Talon, Natalyn, Landon, Parker, Lively, Sadie, and one on her way, Millie. Also surviving are his brother and sister-in-law, Billy Joe and Marion Ayers of Buchanan and brother-in-law, Jerry Brown of Buchanan.

Funeral services for Lowell Ayers will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at Buchanan First Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Allen Wilburn and Rev. Kevin Ayers officiating.  Interment will follow in the Buchanan City Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Todd Ayers, Trent Ayers, Allen Pullen, Adam Pullen Kannon Madden, Tyler Motes, and Carl Gable.

The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 PM until the funeral hour.
