James Donnie Harper

James Donnie Harper, age 58 of Buchanan, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 8, 2024, after a lengthy illness. Born on November 16, 1965, in Carrollton, GA, he was the son of the late Barney Glen Harper and the late Lucille Ploof Kilgore.  In addition to his parents, Donnie is preceded in death by a sister, Jane Harper, a brother, Jimmy Harper, and a niece, Becky Ledbetter.

A sports enthusiast, Donnie excelled at playing softball and was part of an adult travel team that won many championships.  He enjoyed being outdoors, either fishing, hunting, or riding the backroads with his family. Donnie enjoyed life and loved being with his grandchildren.  He would give a wink to let you know that everything was O.K., but he would also aggravate you just for fun.  

Left to cherish his memories, are his wife, Jennifer Norton Harper; his daughters Hope (Jimmy, III) Tate of Rockmart, Bethany Alexis Norton and Kaleigh Jade Norton, both of Buchanan; his sons, James Donny (Kristen) Harper, Jr. of Rockmart and Cody Lee Harper of Rockmart; and his precious grandchildren: Ryker Tate, Noah Tate, Keira Tate, Donny Harper III, Jaylee Harper, and Josie Harper.  Also surviving are his sister Sue (Bob) Burns of Temple;  his brothers, Danny (Vicki) Harper of Douglasville and Richard (Lisa) Harper of Tallapoosa; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Funeral services for Donnie Harper will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 13, 2024, from Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel with Brother David Finley officiating.  Interment will follow in tthe Welcome Church Cemetery in Bremen.  

The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
