Chalmus E. Weatherby

Chalmus Eldreth Weatherby, age 91 of Buchanan, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at his home.  Born in Haralson County on June 9, 1932, he was the son of the late Aaron R. Weatherby and the late Alva Beauchamp Weatherby. In addition to his parents, Chalmus is preceded in death by his wife of almost 70 years, Mary Ann Weatherby; his sister, Mattie Lou Weatherby, and brothers, Roscoe Weatherby, Ralph Weatherby and Almus Weatherby.

Growing up in Haralson County, Chalmus enjoyed the simple life.  He proudly served as an auto mechanic in the United States Army from September 1950 until his honorable discharge as a Corporal in June of 1952.  A retiree from Lockheed Martin Aircraft, Chalmus had worked as an electronics mechanic on the C-130 and the C-5. He loved learning about history, watching war documentaries, and studying anything to do with airplanes. He spent many hours keeping an immaculate yard, growing beautiful tomatoes, and feeding the deer, turkeys, and crows that lived in his woods.  Chalmus loved his community and spent several years serving on the board of the Buchanan Housing Authority. 

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews as well as a number of great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Chalmus Weatherby will be conducted Thursday, April 4, 2024,  at 2:00 PM from Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends from Noon until the funeral hour. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Mark Bush, Gary Garner, Russ Lane, Jacob Lane, Randall Wood and Cason Wood.

In honor of his service to our country, Chalmus will be laid to rest at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at 11:00 AM.
